Expedition Into Darkness Guides Hub
Survive the ruins, extract with loot, and grow your camp between runs.
Welcome to the Guides Hub for Expedition Into Darkness, the medieval third-person co-op dungeon crawler and extraction looter from Antediluvian Interactive (Steam app 3126410, planned for Q4 2026). These pages explain how to enter the ruins, fight what lives there, and leave alive with something worth storing in camp.
This is not a loot-and-respawn fantasy. Death deletes your character and everything on their body. Only the camp stash survives. Every guide here is written around that rule: plan the run, manage risk, extract on purpose, and invest what you bring home into better weapons and facilities.
Start here if you are new
New players should read these in order:
- Getting Started — what the game is, how a session flows, and what “safe” actually means.
- How to Extract — finding exits, timing the leave, and using the extraction checklist.
- Combat and Controls — stamina, spacing, and fighting Fleshkin, Goblins, and Bonekin.
- First Expedition — a practical first-run plan for The Moor and early ruins.
After that, branch into Co-op Tips if you play with a party of up to five, Camp Progression once you are ready to turn scavenged materials into long-term power, and Forbidden Power when you are ready to risk Empyrean bargains, Toastmaster spells, and the purple corruption bar.
What these guides cover
Extraction mindset
Extraction is the win condition. Loot only counts when it reaches the camp stash. Our how to extract guide pairs with the map overview, extraction points, and the extraction checklist so you leave with a plan instead of a panic sprint.
Combat and party play
Combat is deliberate: stamina spends, weapon reach, and enemy pack behavior matter more than button spam. Use combat and controls for fundamentals, then co-op tips and the party planner to assign roles before you drop. Casters should also read forbidden power before treating Toastmaster bolts as free damage — a full corruption bar can explode the character.
Builds, crafting, and camp
Between runs you assemble weapons from components, store surplus, and climb the camp upgrade path from Workbench toward Workshop, Ironworks, Forge, Blacksmith, and Armoursmith. Deep dives live under builds, weapon crafting, beginner builds, and camp upgrades. The camp progression guide explains when to unlock each step so early Building Supplies are not wasted.
Maps and the wider wiki
Region notes for The Moor, Catacomb Ruins, and Chapel Ruins sit in the map hub. For lore, systems indexes, and release tracking, use the wiki overview and release timeline.
How to use this hub
Treat each expedition as a short story with a fixed ending: extract or lose the character. Before you queue, skim the relevant guide, check your loadout against a beginner build, and decide what you are willing to risk on your body versus what stays in stash. After you return, spend materials on the next camp unlock that unlocks recipes you actually need.
The tone of the world is dark fantasy with Lovecraftian weight — forbidden knowledge, ruined chapels, and things that should stay buried. Play carefully. The ruins do not care how much loot you found if you die twenty meters from the exit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Where should complete beginners start?
Start with Getting Started, then How to Extract and First Expedition. Those three pages cover session flow, exits, and a safe early route before you specialize in builds or camp upgrades.
Do these guides assume co-op?
No. Expedition Into Darkness supports solo play and parties of up to five. Solo advice is woven through Getting Started and First Expedition; Co-op Tips is for coordinated groups.
What happens when I die?
You lose that character and everything they were carrying. Items stored in the camp stash remain safe. Extraction is how loot becomes permanent progress.
When is the game releasing?
Steam currently lists a planned Q4 2026 release for Expedition Into Darkness (app 3126410). Check the release timeline page for dated milestones and playtest notes.
Where do builds and crafting guides live?
Weapon assembly, loadouts, and beginner kits are under the Builds section, including weapon crafting and beginner builds. Camp facility unlocks are covered in Camp Progression and Camp Upgrades.
Where is magic and corruption covered?
See Forbidden Power for Empyrean deals, Toastmaster's Tome playtest spells, and the purple corruption bar. Pair it with Combat and Controls so casting never replaces extract discipline.
